|BOOK TALK|An Ember in the Ashes (Spoilers!)

Hello everyone and welcome to the first booktalk of the Hannarybe bookclub!

Hanna (from Hanna’sBooksandBananas) and I (Anna from Ellarybe) decided to join our brains and start a book club and after a lot of months, here is our long-awaited book talk oooof……….. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir! I know that we should have done this quite some time ago but school became very stressful and I couldn’t have a single minute to read… I’M SO SORRY GUYS!

First and foremost, I’m going to tell you how this book talk is going to go. Here you can see two different colours: black and purple. When you see something written in black means that I (Anna) am speaking while purple means that Hanna is the one who’s talking. We will post this book talk on both of our blogs and on our Goodreads page! Feel free to check the out 🙂

So, without further ado, Hanna, can you tell us something about the book that we have read?

An Ember in the Ashes is written from our two main characters’ Elias and Laia’s perspectives as we follow their lives and learn their struggles as they fight for freedom. The Martial Empire (very similar to The Roman Empire) had been once ruled by the scholars, but then the Martials came and overthrew the scholars turning them into slaves. Laia is one such scholar slave who lives with her brother and her grandparents mainly working with her parents in helping the injured and curing the sick through herbal treatment with different kinds of medicine plants. The Martials are trained from when they are little. They are taken away from their families and friends and sent off to be trained to become Masks. The horrific assassins/soldiers whose sole purpose is serving the Emperor’s wishes and commands. Elias is one such soldier, who all his life had been dreaming of freedom.

When Laia’s brother is arrested for treason in having worked secretly with the Resistance, Laia seeks out the rebels for help. This leads to the rebels sending Laia to one of the most elite schools Blackcliff to spy for them, only when Laia provides the information they seek will the Resistance help her in finding her brother and saving him from the horrible death that meets those who betrayed the Empire.

Laia enters the school as a slave to spy on the Commander (a vicious woman who’s also the principal of the school and has close ties to the Emperor), and there she meets Elias. Soon they find that even though they are so different, both want to fight for the same thing and that is freedom. In this book, both characters are met by the weight of their decisions, and fear of what could happen plays a key role in the development of bravery for both of them. But what can only a slave girl and a trained soldier achieve?

16110643_401470820190245_7519703822160101376_n

So, first of all, I have to say that it was an awesome book! Even though I had a mini break from it, I loved it nonetheless. What did you think about it?

I would have to agree with you completely! I was blown away by both the characters and the whole plot! I found it really hard to put it down ever since the first page.

Yeah, same here! I loved the fact that there were different points of view! Both of them were so gripping that I couldn’t put it down! But maybe my fave point of view was Elias’. When he talked, I felt like more things were happening whilst Laia’s one was at times a bit boring for my taste.

I do agree on that! If I had to choose one which I prefer I’d also choose Elias’. I did see some of the other peoples’ reactions to Laia’s character and many thought of her as pretty weak and a total coward.

Oh, I see why you are saying this but Laia has a lot of development! In the end, she is a total badass, saving Elias, blowing up half of Blackcliff… and well she had to be brave to escape Balckcliff and meet with the Resistance first of all.

Yes, I thought that too! I really fall for character development, especially if it’s done this well. But I think that even in situations where she was scared she always chose the logical alternative and had a logical reason to be scared! I could fully relate to her anxiety and nervousness while spying on someone like the Commandant. My favourite part of her development was when she was brave enough to decide to send her friend, Izzy, to meet up with Keenan, who had promised her safety, instead of herself. That moment when she fully decided she was going to save Elias and escape was my favourite.
What moment was your fave one?

34db4058f159eee9368da2a041c2632c

OMG, that final moment was marvellous! I loved that Elias was now relying on Laia and not the opposite. HELL YEAH FOR FEMALE EMPOWERMENT!

Maybe my favourite moment from the book was the Moon Festival scene when Elias and Laia meet and they don’t know that they are each other ( well at least in Laia’s point of view). I fell in love when they danced together!

The Moon Festival was such a magical moment! I wish we had it in real life, the author just described it so well and I loved every single moment of it! The Laia/Elias ship began right there and then for me!

That moment was the one when the ship began for me too! But the real question here is: Team Elias or Team Keenan? I’m still pretty indecisive on which one to choose! Elias is the perfect man but Keenan is such a cutie… well, he is badass too but you understand me.

OH THE STRUGGLE. I do understand you fully! Both are perfect in their own way like Elias is the REAL DEAL and Keenan’s emotions and thoughts are just so well written and I still have a thing for redheads (JK Rowling damned me with the Weasley twins).

haha well for most of the book my heart stayed with Keenan if I have to be honest. I feel like he has more reasons to fall in love with Laia and sometimes it seems like Elias only wants Laia for her looks. And the part where Keenan tells Laia that thing about her father I was like OMG why can’t you just marry her please!!

Oh now that you mention it! I feel as though the relationship between Laia and Keenan has so much more depth than Laia and Elias. They value each other for their skills and even though he wasn’t confident about her coming back from the missions you can see how surprised he was and how much he supported her afterwards! I believe that they have more understanding of each other’s flaws and characteristics so I’m kind of leaning towards Team Keenan here haha.

I feel like the next book is going to end up with Izzy and Keenan together. It would be so uncomfortable if Laia and Elias meet with Izzy and Keenan and there is still the love triangle… Well, we all know that Elias is going to end up with Laia after all…

It would be such a great twist if she didn’t though, like if she ended up with Keenan. But I do HOPE Izzy and Keenan doesn’t end up together! Izzy does deserve someone like Keenan but I don’t really see any chemistry happening.
But I’m very worried for Helene in the second book! She became the second to the crowned Emperor Marcus and we all know he’s the biggest pain in the ass to ever exist. Though I’m confident in her strong character.

Oh poor Helene! I think that she is going to do fine though… she is very strong so I hope that she can endure what our beloved ( jokes) Marcus will do to her. She is obviously very loyal so this means that she will have to do terrible things but well… she did everything she could to save Elias.

Losing best friends who you grew close with through thick and thin is so much worse than losing a lover and this makes the whole situation of Elias being a refugee from the law and Helene having to probably hunt him so much worse. Although I wasn’t a fan of her falling in love with him, I do love them as a duo in combat. Reminded me of our fellow parabatais :’).

OMG you are so right! She also reminded me of Izzy a bit! (oh our famous The Mortal Instruments buddy reads, how I miss them… :’) ).

Also, I have to say that one of the coolest parts for me was the trials. It reminded me of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire!

They were so brutal (especially the third one when they have to fight each other). I truly believed that Elias had killed Helene! I couldn’t stop crying!

Same here! The trials also reminded me too of Harry Potter. The trials were so brutal, I had that feeling of “someone’s going to die on the next page OH GOD”. But the description of the fight scenes was sooo good I usually am not interested in them all that much but in this book, I could easily picture everything. I have to say this book would be so easy to remake as a movie or tv show without much struggle and I’d LOVE to see it!

OMG YES PLESE I WOULD TOTALLY PAY TO SEE THIS! Some said that it was similar to Game of Thrones and they are sooo right! I just wish that they make Matt Daddario be Elias! I wouldn’t hesitate to watch it if they do so.

THE IDEAL CAST is definitely Matt Daddario Anna you’re a genius! I have to agree it did remind me of Game of Thrones which is probably why I loved it so much!
The book had also some magical additions to it, the Genies and those dark creatures that drain you also reminded me so much of Game of Thrones where magic also plays a centre role.

Oh and what about the Augurs? They were pretty scary at first but I really liked Cain! Also, there’s this woman Augur that helps Laia that really intrigues me! Why is she helping her and why is she the only woman Augur?!

She probably knows something none of us does and that makes me so mad and eager to read the next book! But I agree, I expected the book to have a kind of major discrimination towards women since it was compared to the Roman Empire, but I was surprised upon seeing so that women actually COULD become Emperors and Commanders (FEMALE EMPOWERMENT). But there only being one female Augur did make me a bit disappointed.

I did find the Augurs to be super cool though.

Same here! Oh and talking about female empowerment, what about Cook? She is so cool and badass that makes me want to be Laia! But, sometimes, I felt like there was something strange going on. Am I the only one who has the theory that she could be the Nightbringer?

What? There’s a theory?

Well, It’s a theory that I’ve made up. I feel like she could be it because there are a lot of plot holes in her story and well, she knew Laia’s parents and I can totally see her as a villain! or the one that turned Laia’s parents in.

1fa17bee84b29160ce90c171c5d278ed

Now that I think about it, your theory seems logical! I actually do agree with it, but we HAVE to read the second book as soon as possible to find out!

Totally!! I can’t wait to pick up the second book!

So what do you guys think after reading out book talk? Team Keenan or Team Elias? Could Cook be the Nightbringer? Comment bellow!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir|No Spoilers review

OMG hi everyone! It’s been sooo long since I’ve written something but here’s my excuse: I’m in my senior year of high school and well stuff got pretty hectic and I basically haven’t had time to read or breath. My Goodreads challenge was so sad, I was like 9 books behind schedule but I finished classes last week and I can proudly say that I’m on track!

I’ve just finished reading An Ember in the Ashes as I’m writing this post and OMG it has been a wonderful ride! Don’t worry, this will be a review without spoilers because Hanna from Hanna’sbooksandbananas and me will be doing a book talk as this book was our book pick for our book club (you can check out our Goodreads page HERE).

An Ember In the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir is the story of a girl named Laia, who has lost her family due to a Mask’s raid and these have taken her brother Darin. She lives in a world that is divided into two opposite groups: the Resistance and the Empire (Masks). It also tells us the story of Elias, a Mask who ends up crossing paths with Laia.16110643_401470820190245_7519703822160101376_n.jpg

Firs of all, I have to say that I love the fact that there were two points of view. The way that they intertwined was sooo magical… I normally don’t like books with different points of view but it’s practically impossible to not love Sabaa’s writing. Every chapter, specially in the end, left you out intrigued for what was going to happen next.

As you may know, it has taken me a looong time to read it as I haven’t had time to do so but OMG I love it so much that these time that has passed hasn’t made my view change. Well, I have to say that it was hard to start reading after a couple of weeks of not reading but my final reaction it’s what counts ( I basically read half of it yesterday).

I love the characters and the fact that there are the Trials, which makes the story a lot more fast paced. Also, I really liked the setting of the story as it seemed like it could be our world in some way.

Now I just can’t wait to pick up the second book! I really recommend it if you are a fan of Game of Thrones as sometimes it seems like Helene is Daenerys or that the land is Westeros. It’s so action packed that you won’t be able to put it down!

Our book talk will be announced as soon as possible!!

Favourite books of 2016!

Wow It’s the end of the first month of 2017 and I just can’t believe how fast has past. Although 2016 was not really a good year, there were many awsome things that happened: I created this blog and your support has been unbelievable, I met a lot of amazing friends… and I read a lot of amazing books too so today I’m going to talk to you about my top 5 books of 2016!

5. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

by @BOOKBRILLIANT

I read this book over summer holidays and it totally blew me away! I was prepared to read a ”meh” book as many people told me that it was just an okay book but I loved it nonetheless. I watched the movie first ( I know, you can kill me now but Dylan O’Brien was in it and I just couldn’t help but do so) and I totally loved it so I had very high expectations for the book. Thankfully, the book was better than the movie but I don’t know if I’ll continue reading the series.

4. Love You by Estelle Maskame9788408147084

You know that feeling when you start a book but you don’t think that you’ll like it and then you end up falling in love with it? Yes, this is what happened to me with this book. I read it at the perfect time as it was set in summer. It was a fun and fast-paced book and I can’t wait to read the next one!

3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

OMG guys this book is just the best thing ever! I don’t really read a lot of contemporary books but Jojo Moyes has definitely exceeded my expectations. It was unbelievable how much I connected with Lou and the story made me feel like all of that was happening to me. It was a crushing book? Yes, but it was such a beautiful book that I don’t think that many can be compared to it.

2. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

I feel like this year was the Year of Cassandra Clare and I’m so glad I’m finally a part of the Shadowhunters family! I read the whole entire series in 2016 and I have the feeling that this series will stay with me for a long time! My favourite books were City of Heavenly Fire, City of Glass and City of Lost Souls.tumblr_o9s0wlwcdt1u0raf7o1_540

1. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

Itumblr_o5234lokxr1ux7h8ko1_500 read the second and the third book in 2016 and OMG you guys really need to read this trilogy! I loved reading it during TMI as I felt like I was really in that world and I loved seeing how these series go by together. There is one thing about the setting of this book that really made me fall in love with the series and it has totally changed my view towards reading! The Infernal Devices is really really close to being my favourite series. We need a second to talk about Clockwork Princess though… OMG this book made me cry, laugh and feel like a hundred emotions at once! Will, Tessa and Jem will be by my side forever and I’m just so grateful for having read these books that have changed my life for the better.

So there were my fave books of 2016. Feel free to tell me your fave books of 2016 because I’m really interested to know it! I wish you are having an amazing 2017! See you next week!

Just a teenage girl with a laptop and an amazing dream…

It all started on a very very very late night. I had this idea in mind since the first moment that I started to watch booktube videos but I discovered that a girl from my Theatre club had a blog. I started to read it and I fell in love with the words that she was writing and then I had a sudden realisation: I she can do it, why not me? I’ve always been too shy to create a Youtube channel but creating a blog allows me to communicate and express my feelings too, just that in the form of words.

So, after thinking about it for a very long time I decided to create this blog. I’ve never been so happy of something in my life as finding out that there were people that were willing to talk to me about the things that I loved most was something that I haven’t really stopped to think about. Also, I’ve always wanted to be a writer and this is a place where I can share my words with the world.

I know that during the ”first period” of my blog it was kind of a fail as I wrote a post and then I didn’t post in ages but now I’ve gotten back up so you can expect more content from me! *pinky promise!

Two pieces of advice!:

I know that I may not be the best person to give you advice about blogging as I feel like I’m still kind of a newbie on this topic but here are two tips that I wish that someone had told me when I started:

  • Don’t stress: I feel like when you start you start to stress about a lot of things: am I posting good content? Am I posting enough? Will others like me?  These are some of the hundreds of questions that you will ask yourself when you start blogging but you should not really stress about those things! Find what suits you. Maybe you can’t find time to write four posts a week or you feel like your writing is kind of different to other ones but don’t worry because everyone is different and they will like you just as much. The important thing is that you are having fun writing and that you are proud of the content that you are producing!
  • Be original!:  We all have seen people writing the same posts with the same type of writing and that sometimes becomes a bit boring so if you produce original content, have a different aesthetic or type of writing you will be more noticeable!

Halloween book tag!

OMG guys I’m so sorry for not posting in SO LONG but here’s my excuse: life has been crazy and school work and a big project that I’ve been working on for so long have taken over my life. I’ll do an update post soon so you know what has been happening in my life!

As everyone knows tomorrow is one of my favourite days of the years and this day is…. HALLOWEEN! To honour this fantastic day I decided to do the HALLOWEEN BOOK TAG created by Naomi TheBookLover  so without further ado here is the Tag!

1. Carving pumpkins– what book would you carve up and light on fire?

Wow this question is quite brutal! Honestly, there hasn’t been any book that I’ve read that has produced me this feeling but if I have to answer I’ll have to say one of those books that they made you read at school.

2. Trick or treat– what character is a treat, what character is a trick?

In my opinion, Rose from Vampire Academy is a treat! She is badass, witty and I loved to read a hero character that was a girl.

The trick character for me is SPOILER ALERT!!!!                                         Delphi from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I’m not going to say why because maybe some of you haven’t read it yet but I’m just going to say that her character left me with my mouth open.

3. Candy corn– what book is always sweet?

Whenever I feel bad or just that I have to put my feelings into their rightful place I read Wonder by R.J Palacios. I know that this book is not entirely a happy and sweet book as the main character deals with a disorder but I think that what’s important is the feeling that you get after reading it: a sweet feeling just as candy corn.

by : cookie_bookie_

4. Ghosts– what character would you love to visit you as a ghost?

SPOILER ALERT!

My answer to this question is… WILL HERONDALE from The Infernal Devices. I mean who doesn’t love Will? I can imagine us doing mischieve, reading books and just having a lot of fun especially around this time of the year. We love you Will!

5. Dressing up in costume– what character would you want to be for a day?

Wait, is that even a question? Of course Hermione Granger from the14714494_321230801592110_191597979973451776_n Harry Potter series! I will never pass out the opportunity to go to Hogwarts and be friends with Harry freaking Potter and Ron Weasley! Well, I’d rather be in a year where Voldemort wasn’t there but well… you can’t have everything in life!

6. Wizards and witches– what is your favourite Harry Potter moment?

One of my favourite bits from Harry Potter is a scene from Goblet of Fire when Harry, Ron and Hermione are in the kitchen and they find out that Dobby is there but there’s also Winky . She is very depressed and drunk and I just simply really wish that they could have put Winky in the movies. They left a little poor elf with a drinking problem!

1389543_484244898341322_767438116_n

7. Blood and gore– what book was so creepy that you had to take a break from it for awhile?

City of Heavenly Fire. Yes, I know that this book is not creepy but the action is so so so intriguing and I feel like someone is going to die and I don’t want to read that so I read 5 pages a day because I’m just scared!

So that’s my Tag! I hope that you enjoyed it and…. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

Rapid Fire Book Tag

Hey guys! I came across with this tag the other day while looking through Amino ( it’s an amazing app where you can talk with people about the things that you like and meet new friends) and I came across with this tag. So, as I’ve never done a tag before, here it is my first tag ever!

This tag was created by GirlReading and it’s basically a lot of bookish questions so you can know a bit more about my reading habits and preferences in a quick way ( but as you know me, short answers are not my forté). Here are the questions!

E-Book or Physical Book?

Beautiful covers, amazing smell, the feel of passing the pages, a book that you can display on your bookshelf… yes, I’m pretty sure that physical books have this point. Don’t get me wrong, I also like e-books as you can carry a lot of books without fearing that your book bag will break ( yes, it’s happened to me before) and books are always way cheaper but there’s nothing like holding a book in your hands!

Paperback or Hardback?

I really like hardbacks because they are beautiful but I think that for this question I’ll have to go for paperbacks: I don’t know if I’m the only one but paperbacks are more comfortable to read because when I read a hardback I always have to take off the dust cover and also paperbacks are way cheaper than hardbacks.

Online or In-Store Book Shopping?

I love to go to bookstores but as I live in a small town we don’t have a proper bookstore so I always end up shopping for books online and, like this, I’m always sure that I’ll find the book that I want to read.

Trilogies or Series?

Definitely series! I’m that kind of person that really gets into the book’s world and I always need more! I also like trilogies but I always wish that the story would last longer!

HP.jpg
Heroes or Villains?

I think that what makes a good book are the different characters that the author has invented so if a book has a perfect hero but a not well-developed villain, the book is not as good as it should be! When I’ll write a book I’m definitely going to develop a lot of the characters.

A book you want everyone to read?

Harry Potter! I know that many people have read the series but if you haven’t you are really missing out!

Recommend an underrated book?

I don’t really have an answer for this one but I’m going to go for Fablehaven  by Brandon Mull. It’s a middle-grade book ( which is a series) that really changed my life. This book is the reason why I started reading and it will always have a special spot in my heart.

The last book you finished?

Love You by Estelle Maskame and it was A M A Z I N G! Perfect book for summer!

The Last Book You Bought?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K Rowling.

Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?

My Starbucks cup which was full! I almost spilled everything on the book!

Used Books: Yes or No?

YES! If they are in good condition, I’m down for buying a second-hand book. I’ve never bought one though but I wouldn’t care if it was used previously as long as it is in a good condition, and they are usually cheap so gotta get em’ all!

Top Three Favorite Genres?

Fantasy, Contemporary and historical fiction.

Borrow or Buy?

Definitely buy! When I borrow a book from a friend, when I have to give it back I’m always sad because I have to leave it behind and, to be honest, I really like to have the books that I’ve read because they are a part of my personality and life and it’s nice to go back to them and remember certain periods of mu life but, although I’d rather buy my own books, i think that borrowing books is a really nice bonding experience.

bookbaristas.png
Characters or Plot?

I don’t really know what to answer but if I have to choose on of the two I think that I’d rather have a book plot with not so likable characters because at least I enjoy most part of the book: the plot.

Long or Short Books?

I LIKE LONG BOOKS AND I CANNOT LIE.

Long or Short Chapters?

Short Chapters because when I read a book like this I feel like I’ve read a lot and I feel accomplished. I’m that kind of girl that is always thinking: how long till the next chapter? while she is reading.

Name The First Three Books You Think Of…

Throne of Glass, Harry potter and the Cursed Child, the Kiss of Deception.

Books That Makes You Laugh or Cry?

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare! OMG you guys can’t imagine how much I cried and laughed while reading this book. I’m not really a person that cries while she reads but this book was so amazing that I can’t even make a rational sentence. Book review coming soon!

Our World or Fictional Worlds?

I mean, who wants to stay in our world when you have a fictional world with magic, dragons, magical schools and awesome lands?

Audiobooks: Yes or No?

YES YES YES! Audiobooks really help me when I’m in a reading slump or I just don’t have really a lot of time to read, a.k.a while I’m at high school. I mostly read audiobooks when I want to re-read a book but I love listening to them!

f1b54aaf59187d3327f1842983dec16e.jpgDo You Ever Judge a Book by its Cover?

I feel like everyone wants to say no to this question but in reality… we all judge a book by it’s cover! I try really hard to not do this but well… if a book it’s beautiful it better be mine!
Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?

I haven’t seen a lot of book to TV Adaptations ( just Shadowhunters) so i have to say book to movie adaptations… but i’d rather have a book without it being adapted because i don’t want people to destroy my babies.

Series or Standalones?

Series all the way! I always want to read more and more about a world or a story.

I tag all of you who are reading this blog to do this TAG! Hope that you enjoyed my first blog!

August wrap-up and September TBR

Hello guys! Welcome to September! I can’t believe how fast time passes. A few days ago it was the beginning of our summer holidays and now we are about to start school or some of you have already started… So I decided that I’m going to share with you my August wrap-up and my September TBR!

AUGUST WRAP-UP

First of all, I want you to know that I am a very very very slow reader and I usually read four books a month. I know that it’s an average amount but many people read like ten books a month so, don’t expect me to be one of those people! This month I read 3 books and it’s kind of bad because it’s summer and last month I read 6 books so I really hope to read more in September.

  • The first book that I read was The Volcano of Fire by Geronimo Stilton.  Yes, I’ve read a middle-grade book and I’m proud of it because it got me out of a huge reading slump. On the 31st of July Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was published and I pre-ordered it but I don’t know what happened but it arrived to my home like 10 days later. During those days I refused to read anything but the Cursed Child and when I realised that I should probably read something I found myself in a slump. So I did what I always do when I’m in a book slump and this is to read a middle-grade book. Those books really help me when I am in this situation because they are usually short with lots of pictures and huge font so I feel accomplished because I read more quickly and I really enjoyed this book so it’s done its job!
  • The second book that I read in August was City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare and this book is FANTASTIC! I don’t want to tell you a lot about the plot for just in case that you haven’t read the series yet but this one is the fifth book and the sad thing about it is that I only have one book to read of The Mortal Instruments now:( I buddy-read this book and it was an awesome experience! I can’t believe how fast I read it and I loved to have someone to talk to without being spoiled. This series is getting better and better as the books come by and it has a very special part in my heart.
  • Finally, the last book that I read this month was… CLOCKWORK PRINCESS BY CASSANDRA CLARE! I don’t have words to tell you how much I love this book and this series. It made me laugh, cry… and that is very important because I don’t usually cry while reading books but this one was exceptional. I loved to see how everything ended but I loved this trilogy so much that I want to read more about it! I was a little bit scared because I wanted the ending to be perfect and Cassandra Clare didn’t disappoint me. I heard that Cassandra Clare is the best at ending series and now I  can see why. I love this trilogy so much that I can say that it is my second favourite series of all time.

SEPTEMBER TBR

So, as I didn’t really read as much as I wanted this month I decided to read 4 books in September but I don’t know if 4 books may be a little bit too ambitious because I’ll be starting my senior year at high school and work so this means that I won’t have as much time to read. These are the books that I plan on reading in September:

  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Yes, after one month of restraining myself I’m reading this book! Many of you may think: Anna, but why Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetdid it take you so long to start this book if you wanted to read it so badly? Well, the reason why
I waited to read it is because I want to start it on September 1st because it’s when the story starts. Oh, I will also be buddy-reading this book so I’m excited for that! My expectations are so high that I think that it’s impossible that I’ll be disappointed. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about this book but I really want to like it and, well, it’s a Harry Potter script and JK Rowling so I already know that it will be perfect.

  • The second book that I want to read is Need You by Estelle Maskame. It is the second book of the Dimly trilogy and if you haven’t read it yet you are really missing out! The first book follows the story of Eden and she is spending the summer at her dad’s house with her step-mother and step-siblings. I don’t want to give much away from this book because it’s better if you start it without knowing a lot about it but I’m just going to say that she won’t be bored during that summer. I read the first book during this summer and I fell in love with. The second one is one of my priorities of this month because it also takes place in summer and now we are in the last month of summer so I should really read it now if I don’t want to wait for another year.

  • The third book that I want to read during this month is City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. This one is the last book of the Mortal Instruments series and I’m so excited to read it that I can’t really express my feelings. I read City of Lost Souls last month and this book really stepped up the game! I’m in love with Cassandra Clare’s writing and I’m really excited to see how she ends this fantastic series although I’m a bit sad because it ends but as it is huge I won’t finish it as quickly.

  • The last book that I want to read is Taking the reins ( The Rosewoods) by Katrina Abbott. This book follows Brooklyn’s story, a girl who is starting at a new school which is for famous and reach people where she will meet a lot of new friends and will get to know that style of life. It is a contemporary book and I’m ready to step out of my comfort zone.

Which books will you read during September?

Review: Clockwork Prince

Yes, after what seemed like a hundred months, I finally read Clockwork Prince! This book is the second book of the Infernal Devices trilogy and, just in case that you don’t know what it is about, here is  Goodreads’ summary :

“In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. 616NNVHj-hLCould finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.″

I was so excited to read this book after reading Clockwork Angel and I had very high expectations for it and, believe me, this book didn’t let me down. I have to admit that it took me quite a while to get into it, and when I mean quite a while I mean half of the book but the main reason why this happened is because I started reading it at the same time that I had to do my final exams and ,as you can guess, it was not such a good idea but I finished the book and I fell in love with every word, every character and the world and story that Cassandra Clare has created. This book made me laugh, cry… I got so immersed into the second half of the book that I couldn’t tell if the story was real or not. I’m reading her books in publication order and I’m really enjoying this experience as I am discovering every secret of the series gradually as it intertwines with The Mortal Instrument’s series. I really recommend reading them like this! Cassandra Clare always impresses me and I’m glad that I discovered this books because they made me the person that I am today and I that I will grow to be. After all, books really have the power to change us.

SPOILERS!

First of all, we are faced with the fact that London’s Institute is in crisis. Everyone is losing their minds because they want to make Charlotte leave her position at the Institute because she is ” not fit” for the position. So, all in all, because she is a woman ( which is kind of sexist but normal for the time that this novel is set it) and Benedict Lightwood wants to take over the Institute. They gave them a ridiculous amount of time to find out where the Magister is and what he is planning to do, which is driving everyone mad.

To learn more about Mortmain, they go to Aloysius Starkweather’s home ( they say that he is kind of nuts) and Tessa pretends to be Jem’s mundane fiancé because Aloysius despises downworlders. I see what you did there Jem, taking advantage of the moment… and I’m sure that Will was thinking ” but I want Tessa to pretend to be my fiancé!” Oh, I thought that it was very funny that Will was Welsh! So, they meet Aloysius and he seems to recognise Tessa. This made me think maybe Tessa is related in some way to Adele ( his granddaughter) and maybe she is not a downworlder because he keeps parts of them in a room. Also, if you have read City of Lost Souls, you know that Clary’s full name is Clarissa ADELE Fray, so maybe she and Adele are related in some kind of way. When they finish their visit they go to visit the mansion where Mortmain used to live when he was growing up. So here’s the thing, we learn that Mortmain’s parents were warlocks and that his father invented those robots that the Magister is using to conquer the world. They were arrested because of this fact and they are dead and the reason why Mortimain is doing all of this is for vengeance buy WHY DOES HE NEED TESSA?! I still don’t understand it!

Also, guess who is living at that house? Will’s family! Poor Will, he was freaking out when he saw his little sister and he run after her, despite the fact that there were loads of robots. Another thing that has kept me thinking for the last days is Tessa’s necklace. Does it have a secret meaning? It saved her a couple of times and Nate told her to keep it with her at all times because it would protect her but I 75f07e8d1607c27065bc3bee7fd61467think that it has a different meaning. Now let’s talk about Will’s big secret. At the ending of Clockwork Angel we see that Will goes to see Magnus. In this book we learn that Will, when he was young, opened a box with a demon in it ( OMG bad parents, who let a box with a demon in it lie around?!) and that demon cursed him by making everyone who loves him to die so this is the reason why he has been so intolerable with everyone, special with Tessa but not Jem as he has a short life due to the yin fen. Now Magnus is trying to summon this demon but they don’t really find him so they summon random demons :’) till Will sees him at Benedict Lightwood’s party. At this part I couldn’t stop laughing because Will sees him and leaves Tessa and everyone and starts chasing him. They end up in kind of a fight and the demon leaves one of it’s tooth at Will’s skin and now they can summon him.  They do it and it tells them that the whole curse thing was a LIE! Poor Will, for so long he’s been unhappy keeping everyone out for nothing!

So, in this book we can see a love triangle very clearly! Jem is in love with Tessa and he finally decides to ask her to marry him. I know how most of us were at that moment: ” No Tessa please say you’ll think about it but don’t marry him! You love Will not Jem!!) Yes, Tessa agrees to it but I think that she only says yes because she pities him; I mean, Jem is dying… but she never tells him that she loves him. really, she friend zoned him A LOT during this book so WHY DID YOU AGREE TO MARRY HIM!? All of this proposal made me think and I think that Jem won’t end up with Tessa. it’s obvious that she will end up with Will so Jem will die soon or later. I don’t want Jem to die, I really like him! But well… Tessa has to end up with Will somehow…

Also, Will knows the truth and he confesses her feelings to Tessa but she is going to marry Jem… I couldn’t stop crying at this scene! After everything that he is been through…

In this book Tessa and Sophie are being trained by Gabriel and Gideon Lightwood and we can see that Sophie and Gideon like each other so I’m excited to see their relationship at the next book. Also, Henry and Charlotte share a lot of cute moments at this book! She is very insecure because she thought that Henry married her without loving her but he was in love! Also, they are going to have a child! I also really liked Bridget and her wierd songs because they go parallel to the story and it’s pretty funny to see the reactions while she sings:’)

Finally, let’s talk about Jessamine. I liked her in the first book but in this one she was the_infernal_devices_by_felixcorgitana-d9vl3faacting so shady dressing up like a boy and not training. Sophie discovers that she has an invitation to a ball by Nate so she throws a mirror to Jessamine. Yaaas badass Sophie! Tessa turns herself into Jessamine and goes to the party and we learn that Benedict has been working with Mortmain because he has demon pox ( OMG Will is so happy about it that he even makes a song for it) and that Jessamine has betrayed
her family and that
she has married Nate! Oh, and we find out that he is not Tessa’s brother but her cousin! thank god he dies at the end! Jessamine goes to the Silent City to confess everything but OMG she is so obsessed with Nate that I can’t believe it!

Now the biggest question for the last book is WHAT IS TESSA? Jessamine and Nate say that Tessa’s mum was a Shadowhunter but her dad a demon but then a fairy recognises Tessa at Benedict’s party and says she knew her mother so maybe Tessa’s mother was a fairy!

What do you think that Tessa is? Are you happy with Tessa marrying Jem? Tell me down below!

10 popular series/trilogies that I haven’t read yet

I was thinking about buying a book later today and I couldn’t decide on which one to choose. Me, being as clueless as I am, I soon realised that I have still many books to read, so I’ve decided to share 10 series that I haven’t read yet. It’s going to be divided between series that I’ve started but haven’t finished them and series that I haven’t started. Please don’t judge me too hard but there are so many books and so little time!

Series that I have started but not finished

1. The Mortal Instruments: Yes guys, I haven’t finished this series yet but don’t worry because I will finish it soon. I’m currently buddy reading City of Lost Souls and I can’t put it down! You can be expecting a review soon 😉 I’m really liking the series so far and I’ve become really attached to it so I think that I’ll finish this series pretty soon but it is sooo good that I don’t want it to end!

2. The Infernal Devices: And here it is another trilogy that I absolutely love but ( thankfully) I haven’t read yet. This series is becoming my favourite series apart from Harry Potter. I really love Cassandra Clare’s writing and I’m ready to pick up Lady Midnight once I finish TMI. I feel like this series will be a part of my life for many years and I’m so thankful that I get to read this amazing books. I’ve still got to read Clockwork Princess and I have to say that I am a bit scared to pick it up but I’m sure that it will be an amazing ending to an amazing trilogy.

3. The Fifth Wave: For the last year, the first book has been one of my favourite books of all time. I’ve only read the first book and I absolutely loved it but I haven’t got round to read the second book as it’s not having the best reviews. Right now I don’t really know what to do but I’m sure that I’ll probably give it a try!

4. Twilight: I’ve read the first book, well if you count skimming several chapters I’ve technically read right? Okay, I know that this can be quite shocking but, besides being a complete Potterhead, I really liked the films and I was quite obsessed with them for a while but as I knew everything that was going to happen I wasn’t as interested as I was for the movies and I don’t think that I’ll read them just for this fact.

5. The Hunger Games: What, Anna hasn’t read the Hunger Games?! OMG but it’s the best trilogy ever! Yes, shame on me. I’ve read the first book and I loved it and I don’t really have an excuse for this one. God, I should really read it! Yes, you can throw catching  fire at my face because I deserve it. Stupid Anna.

6. The DIMLY trilogy by Estelle Maskame: This summer I read Love You ( the first book) and I loved it! It’s the perfect book for summer and I’m going to read Need You as soon as I can. If you are looking for a summery book with lots of romance, friendship and what could be a relatable story, you’ve found your book!

Series that I haven’t read

7. Divergent: What? Anna hasn’t another famous trilogy! Yes, I know that you are going to kill me for this one and more now that I tell you that

I don’t have plans to read it anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong, I love the movies and the story but, guess what? I was spoiled on the end of Allegiant ( as many people have) and I’ve seen the films so many times that I know
them by heart, so the story is not as exciting for me as I know everything that happens. I’ve heard many good things about these books and maybe someday I’ll read them, but not anytime soon.

8. Game of Thrones: Game of thrones is one of my all-time favorite TV shows that I’ve watched and I’m planning to read the books once the show finishes because I don’t want the books to cloud my judgement of the TV show as I know that there are a lot of changes. Also, the books are very intimidating but we all know that chunky books are always the best.

9. Percy Jackson: You may not know this, but I love greek mythology. The big question is: How does a greek mythology lover not read the series that is basically based on mythology? Well, I was trying to buy the boxed set but… Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was released and my life literally revolved around Harry Potter and I kind of forgot about other books so I forgot to buy Percy Jackson. Don’t worry, I’ll buy and read the series very soon when I get the chance!

10.The Lord of the Rings: I’ve heard everyone talking about these books and, believe it or not, I have not read the books ( obviously, this is the  10 series I haven’t read post, stupid me) and I haven’t seen the films so this means that I’ve been not spoiled yet. I’m excited to read this books but I don’t know that I will read them anytime soon as I have a lot of books on my TBR. SO MANY BOOKS AND SO LITTLE TIME!

So these are the series that I haven’t read and, as you may have guessed, I really need to catch up. Which are your favourite series? Tell me down below!
